University of Maryland, Baltimore is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Technician for the School of Medicine, Center for Biomedical Engineering and Technology.Under direct supervision, the selected candidate performs routine bioanalytical, chemical, or physical tests according to standardized processes, and performs other laboratory activities and maintenance.
Perform routine biochemical, molecular biology and cell culture procedures such as gel electrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, DNA extractions, real-time PCR analysis, cell and tissue cultures.
Score animals for disease progression. Perform intracranial and intraperitoneal inoculations, perfusion and dissection of animals. Collect, prepare and process animal specimens.
Perform histopathological assays, histology and immunostaining of animal tissues.
Collect and maintain animal records, enter research data into database.
Prepares chemical solutions, media, reagents, stains, and buffers. Perform sterilization/autoclaving procedures.
Perform general housekeeping of laboratory and operation of laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, safety compliance. Maintain chemicals and equipment inventory.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:Bachelors degree in a biological or chemical science.
OTHER:Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
General knowledge of the principles and practices of natural and/or chemical sciences; of the safe and proper handling and disposal of applicable specimens, materials and equipment. Ability to perform laboratory procedures using applicable equipment and techniques; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to use computers and related software applications; to lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Candidates selected for employment may be subject to medical inquiries and/or medical examinations to determine ability to perform job. Employees in this job class may be required to work with biohazardous or radio-labelled materials and to successfully complete applicable safety training.
Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates are eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union).
Salary Range:$38,204 - $42,000
