To provide a comprehensive laboratory service to the scientists in Bioscience. This includes glassware washing, autoclaving, lab consumables stock control and lab discard/waste collection.
Carry out daily lab servicing to a standard that meets customer requirements. Highlight problems promptly.
Use and maintenance of autoclaves & dishwashers: prioritising loads and machines, checking detergent & rinse aid levels.
Responsible for dishwashers and autoclaves: liaising with Engineering to report and follow up on mechanical issues, organise services and inspections.
Collecting dirty and distributing clean glassware, maintaining levels of consumable stock in lab cupboards, collecting discard and waste.
Managing the basement consumable store: storing incoming consumables tidily and safely, stock management and ordering new stock via EasyProcure.
Accepting, checking and distributing inward goods for all lab users.
Help in media production, following all policies, processes and procedures relating to QMS, ensuring documentation is up to date and accessible.
Work closely with media production technician to ensure material is delivered as required.
Identify areas for improvements in efficiency and contribute to problem solving in consultation with other team members and the supervisor.
Contribute to safety performance by maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Help in other areas of Biomaterials production team as necessary, including insect production.
We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate a good working knowledge of laboratory techniques and media production including aseptic technique.
You will be able to carry out routine tasks and follow defined methods accurately and meticulously.
Ability to manage tasks and time in order to ensure that customers’ needs are met.
Ability to exercise judgement in dealing with problems and queries.
Demonstrate high standards with self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
Flexible approach to work in order to respond to changes in customers’ requirements or business need.
Good communication skills and able to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
The role requires computer skills and an understanding of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel with an aptitude to learn new computer packages is key.
