Senior Environmental Technician
Colorado Springs Utilities Industrial Pretreatment (IPT) section is seeking a Senior Environmental Technician knowledgeable in compliance programs related to wastewater regulations. In this position you will manage the industrial user survey program, oversee a number of zero discharge significant industrial user permits, sampling, and various other tasks pertaining to the industrial pretreatment program. If you are a team player, technically skilled, have a background in environmental regulatory work and have a keen attention to detail, then this position may be for you!
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Evaluating new service agreements for applicability of our regulatory program to new users
Evaluating and interpreting regulations for applicability to operations
Drafting issues and re-issues of permits
Answering questions from various constituents and providing information regarding program requirements, details and specifications
Coordinating and conducting field sampling
Installing and programming automatic sampling and flow monitoring equipment
Collecting and preserving industrial effluent, wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system samples
Performing field analysis of industrial wastewater
Reviewing, editing, and analyzing pollutant field data
Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and adjusting monitoring and data recording equipment
Interpreting data, preparing and analyzing technical reports and maintaining required reports
Implementing quality assurance procedures
Inspecting industrial facilities and operating procedures
Data entry and evaluation; report management
Reviewing and responding to corrective actions necessary to meet criteria recommendations by third party audits

What will it take to be successful in this position? Most people in this position will have an Associate’s Degree and 4+ years of progressively responsible experience with environmental regulatory work. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial pretreatment, wastewater compliance or industrial hygiene. This job requires an acute attention to detail and the ability to read and comprehend a myriad of complex legislation and regulations.
