Reference Code: 1703725 Position Title: Tech Technician Location: Huntersville, NC Reports to: Manager of Testing POSITION SUMMARY Will set up and perform manual, automated and environmental performance testing on the full line of Newell Brands business product lines based on applicable standards and keeping the established schedule. Performance of these tests must be precise, with the monitoring of test controls, effective documentation, and communication of the results both verbally and with formal test reports. Individual will collect dimensional measurements on mechanical and electronic measurement equipment and document technical test procedures and protocols for laboratory testing. Other responsibilities include the ability to oversee and maintain the condition, maintenance, orderliness and calibration of the laboratory and its equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform testing of products with a willingness to create standard & unique test setups Assist and or lead with competitor, validation and development testing Acceptancy & Qualification testing Supports the development and fabrication of unique test set-ups to meet engineering requirements Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices Assists in the planning, execution and interpretation of designed experiments to identify and characterize critical process factors. Ability to multi-task and present status verbally to colleagues and management in small group settings in a Lean environment Maintaining a clean and efficient building/office, including floors, desks, tables, shelving, etc. Routinely monitor tests/samples so product can be stored or disposed to ensure a tidy building Communicates with engineering on product performance and functionality issues Contributes to the development of work instructions, batch records, equipment logs, etc Follow current process to generate Test Report documentation Ability to work in a team environment or independently with minimal supervision Willingness to learn new technologies, equipment, and procedures through on-the-job training Respond to change in priorities and adjust duties to align. Demonstrated good critical thinking skills and decision making skills Demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm and a sense of urgency to meet Tech Center needs Qualifications REQUIREMENTS: 3-5 years product testing or related experience Associates Degree in Engineering or related technical field Demonstrated ability to use and operate electronic and mechanical measurement equipment Proficient with MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Familiarity with the use of data acquisition and test software/equipment Experienced in operating dollies, pallet jacks, forklifts and gantries Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and other systems Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods Experience in setting up and operating testing machines Must be able to lift up to 45lbs with no assistance Must be able to lift up more than 45lbs with assistance Must be able to stand/walk majority of the day as well as climb stairs Good physical condition and strength with a willingness to work overtime Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible Exhibit manual dexterity, very detail oriented, and an ability to multi-task Ability to critical think and problem solve in fast paced environment Communication and writing skills to update fellow engineers via e-mail, texting, or phone Valid driver’s license DESIRED SKILLS: Consumer products industry experience Experience with metal or plastic material analysis Ability to interpret mechanical drawings to assist in product measurements Experience working with various industry standards and agencies [ie ASTM, UL, OAHA, etc] Experience with statistical analysis Must be able to pass a forklift certification test Programming skills in Lab View Familiar with pressure gauges, accelerometers, strain gauges, sensors and high speed cameras WORKING CONDITIONS This position requires standing, walking, reaching/working overhead, and moving materials a majority of the time. Typical work schedule will be M-F, 5 days/week x 8 hours/day. Extra hours may be required to meet commitments.
