As a Connected Asset Security Engineer in the Global Power Systems Division, located in Mossville, IL, you will be responsible for ensuring security is embedded into Caterpillar’s increasing connected smart product footprint. The Connected Asset Security Engineer will facilitate the adoption and implementation of information and product security processes within product development lifecycles and work with connected product teams during security testing and associated remediation activities. Strong engineering and industrial controls communication expertise along with up-to-date understanding of information security industry trends are foundational skills required by the Connected Asset Security Engineer. This role is part of Caterpillar’s program to secure Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) and smart iron products.

_Job Duties/Responsibilities_

  • Develop connected product expertise and contribute to defining and prioritizing Connected Asset Security Program initiatives

  • Actively participate on connected product security projects

  • Collaborate with commercial and digital product teams across Caterpillar Energy & Transportation industries, which includes electric power, marine, oil & gas, turbines, rail, and industrial power

  • Travel globally to interface with various industry product teams

  • Provide input and support to development teams throughout the secure development lifecycle on a variety of security domains, including, but not limited to: requirements gathering, secure coding and configuration, software testing, third-party component management and defect management

  • Assist product development teams in improving connected asset security

  • Maintain current knowledge on existing security procedures, directives, secure configuration baselines, data classification and data handling

  • Report on metrics to the connected asset security steering committee and other business unit stakeholders

  • Participate in application threat modeling, attack and penetration testing activities

  • Participate in various industry seminars and conferences to keep up with industry trends

_Basic Qualifications_

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology

  • Experience with information security principles and frameworks

  • Experience in computer security or information security

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or an Information Technology with specialization in information or cyber security

  • Understanding and expertise of software, network, and web applications security

  • Familiar with attack and penetration methodologies

  • Experience with industrial control communication and cyber security

  • Ability to coordinate multiple teams

  • Passion for continuous learning and growth

  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, changing priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change, while multitasking effectively

  • Professional Information Security Certification (CISSP, CCSP, CSSLP, GISCP, GWAPT, GWEB, etc.)

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards such as:

  • ISO 27001, 27002

  • NIST CSF,NIST 800-82

  • IEC/ISA 62443
