SDSU Research Foundation Sponsored Research Technician (Admin Support) in San Diego, California

The Sponsored Research Services (SRS) division supports the research mission of the University in the areas of grant development and administration, including: developing and submitting proposals; negotiating grant and contract awards and subawards; and administering grants, contracts, research support funds and other campus and community programs. In addition, the division provides administrative support for gift funds on behalf of The Campanile Foundation.

Under the immediate supervision of the SRA Manager, the Sponsored Research Technician is responsible for providing administrative support for Sponsored Research Administration Department. Typical duties include data entry of award information to Banner financial system, clerical support, assisting with grant and contract analysis, budgetary input support, setting up awards and closing funds and other duties as assigned.

The Sponsored Research Technician is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Assist with budgetary tasks including the prepartion of invoices and journal vouchers; establishing, maintaining and liquidating encumbrances; and reviewing expenditure documents to verify available funding and approvals.

  • Assist with processing of new funds for SR Administration and Technology Transfer by estblishing fund numbers in the financial system, scanning award documents into electronc files, and routing awards.

-Assist with award setup for sponsored programs including entering data to capture award terms and conditions and reporting requirements; routing of electronic files and updating award files and tracking spreadsheets for grant specialists during the life of the award. Prepare award files for closeout in the financial system and retention of records.

  • Provides reception support by serving as a general point of contact for the SRA Department. Duties include greeting visitors, respondig to general questions, answering phone calls, and offering assitance to staff and visitors.

  • Serves as a backup to the SR Development Technician as needed.

  • Assist division personnel with a variety of special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Experience using Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

  • Ability to respond to routine inquiries and explain standard policies and procedures to others

  • Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to understand standard office procedures, operate standard office equipment, and learn office technology systems

  • Ability to perform basic math calculations, track financial data and make simple projection

Minimum Experience:

  • Two years of administrative support experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher

  • Previous experience working in a research or academic environment
