Rock Tools Technician

Location: Whitehorse, YT

Our offering covers rock drilling, rock cutting, rock crushing, loading and hauling and materials handling.

Currently we have an opening for a Rock Tools Technician located in Whitehouse, YK

The Rock Tools Technician is responsible for sharpening and reconditioning of rock tools according to defined specifications. Part time position (20-40 hours per week)


  • Occasional travel to customer mine sites for material delivery / pick-up.

  • Shipping / receiving duties as may be required.

  • Ability to safely use and maintain grinding equipment and hand tools.

  • Basic troubleshooting of workshop equipment.

  • Maintains a rock tool reconditioning report log.

  • Reports tool wear patterns that may indicate improper usage or tool selection.

  • Stays current with the mining industry and application of rock tools products.

  • Works within a small team to support the rock tools sales and service business unit.

  • Builds relationships with sales representatives and account managers.

  • Customer focused, and responsive to the needs of rock tools customers.

  • Repairs and maintains rock tools according to Company-defined specifications.

  • Maintains a workshop in a tidy, orderly and safe condition.

  • Control of onsite inventory.

  • Performs other, relevant duties as assigned by Manager.

  • Complies with Sandvik EHS Policies, and applicable government, customer or industry regulations.

  • Carries out duties in accordance with Company Values, Policies and Procedures.

  • Participates in training and self-development


  • Completion of Secondary School (High school)

  • Further technical studies

  • Knowledge and experience with industry-specific equipment

  • Ability to work as part of an integrated, broad team

  • Detail oriented

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Flexible, self-motivated with demonstrated initiative

  • Ability to develop knowledge of customer business processes in relation to product reconditioning

  • Knowledge of rock drill operation

  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and email
