Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to be in charge of highway design of State Transportation Improvement Projects (STIP). This position will perform tasks in planning, design, inspection or implementation of highway/bridge construction and maintenance plans in the project development process. In addition, this position will consult with Department of Transportation Division and District offices, consulting engineers, and Federal Highway Administration on design issues.

This Position is a Pay Band EG.


Classification Description

Engineer Manager I

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and six (6) years of engineering experience, two (2) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing.

Employment Requirements:

Registration as a Professional Engineer by the NM State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Driver's License verification and reference check required.

Statutory Requirements:

All applicants for this position must be licensed in accordance with Engineering and Surveying, 61-23.1 through 61-23-32 NMSA 1978 and 16.39.1 through 16.39.8 NMAC, as applicable.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, work is performed in the field and is primarily exposed to outside work in varying weather conditions-hot or cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow; exposure to sunlight, dust, concrete powder, and environmental allergens; exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles; high speed/high volume traffic; insects and reptiles, loud noises; confined spaces, and stressful situations; interaction with the public, local, county, school, and city officials by phone and in person. Work extended hours to include weekends, holidays, nights and overtime, if required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
