The Principal Research Scientist - Computer Adaptive Testing is the primary driver behind all Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT) enhancements. As the visionary for using CAT in our assessments, they are responsible for all new CAT features and enhancements, making our CAT algorithm the best in the industry.

Responsibilities:

Ensures the highest standards for all stories created in development team

Conducts testing around the psychometric work that is implemented, using code such as R and Java.

  • Provides support to psychometrics team

  • Represents Pearson in important client meetings

  • Conducts research in operational delivery to explain anomalies in delivered tests

  • Conducts research for new CAT ideas to implement and create POCs

  • Develops, maintains and administers a system to organize all stories details throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Provides advice and recommendations for product improvements

  • Routinely updates backlog, roadmap, internal and external documentation.

Specific Measures of Success:

  1. Release at least 2 times per year with on average 4 features per release

  2. Conducts 2 operational research assignments per release

  3. Comes up at least 2 new ideas per year to focus efforts around

  4. Maintains client services satisfaction of 75%

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Advanced degree in educational measurement, statistics, mathematics or computer science

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience

  • Experience in the field of assessments

  • Experience in an agile environment, preferred

  • Expert knowledge of statistical programs such as SAS and R

  • Advanced knowledge of Java or other software development language
