Turbocam Product Engineer – 1st Shift (TAPS) in Barrington, New Hampshire

The Product Engineer at TAPS is primarily responsible for supporting the technical needs of a high-volume manufacturing facility. The Product Engineer will also be the liaison between the customer and the TAPS manufacturing group. This includes turning customer requirements into TAPS and vendor actions, which is done by developing a process and managing that process in order to manufacture customer parts.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Knowledge of customer demand.

  • Knowledge of TAPS manufacturing capabilities and capacities.

  • Advise and consult with sales department on the preparation of quotes for new work.

  • Manufacturing process ownership.

  • Receive and evaluate customer design information, drawings, and data.

  • Verify customer design information and data meets original design intent.

  • Review design information with customer if required.

  • Make suggestions to design for ease of manufacture.

  • Build accurate geometric models for use in lathe, mill, and CMM programming.

  • Consult with project managers and machinists to determine best approach to manufacture components.

  • Generate CNC lathe programs from geometric model.

  • Design or collaborate on design of fixtures.

  • Prototype parts on lathe.

  • Generate 5-axis CNC mill programs from geometric model.

  • Design custom cutting tools where required.

  • Design or collaborate on design of fixtures.

  • Prototype parts on mill.

  • Generate CMM programs from geometric model.

  • Design or collaborate on design of fixtures.

  • Prove program functionality on CMM.

  • Coordinate tooling and material purchases as required.

  • Maintain all necessary documentation, drawings, and data.

  • Archive all information when job is complete or process is frozen.

  • Perform inspection of parts as required.

  • Perform required job tasks while adhering to TS16949 quality standard.

  • Seek continuous improvement in personal work and manufacturing processes.

  • Visit customers and vendors as necessary.

  • Demonstrates competence in handling non-conforming product.

  • Supports the company mission statement.

  • Complies with established safety practices and is proactive in communicating potential safety hazards to the Safety Committee.

  • Performs other duties as necessary.

    Skills, Experience, & Education

  • 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree or related experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in manufacturing or other technical field.

  • 2 years’ experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment.

  • 2 years’ experience using CAD and CAM software.

  • High comfort level with various computer systems and software.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Knowledge of customer requirements, industry standards, TAPS and vendor capabilities.
