POSITION OVERVIEW :

Completes a wide variety of difficult engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within one discipline. The Engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of most engineering theories and practices. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations, is expected.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Working in an assistant project engineer capacity, assisting the Construction Oversight Manager

a. Will help manage, perform field engineering assessments/observations to the Design Build contractor’s progress and Design-Build (DB) contractor’s execution of their construction QA/QC plan implementation.

b. Provide engineering office reviews/assessments on the DB contractor’s construction compliance with the contract with the City.

c. Participate in weekly management team and engineering task force meetings with internal and D-B project staff.

d. Assist with, manage and provide engineering analysis of the independent assurance testing program.

e. Provide daily reports, assessment documentation, analysis of engineering field data, and provide summary documentation. Prepare technical reports and documentation of activity for the client and project management.

  1. Position will integrate various engineering, scheduling, procurement, construction, and start-up aspects during the project.

  2. Will independently perform and manage subtasks of the larger project in accordance with contractual obligations and will be responsible for the technical excellence of the engineering functions of the project including application of technical disciplines, procurement of materials and equipment, and construction planning assistance. Relocation to the project site will be required during construction and start-up activities.

  3. Utilizeengineering judgment and perform engineering calculations during the oversight activities on the project.

  4. Helpful for this candidate to have a civil engineering degree with experience in construction, inspection, and materials testing, as this position will be performing reviews on the D-B contractor’s execution of the same.

  5. May help develop scopes of engineering work, schedules, and budgets for assigned project elements, and will monitor progress to meet schedule and budget requirements.

  6. May assist the Project Manager in planning, directing, supervising, and controlling the execution of technical, fiscal, and administrative functions of the project or study. Assists in determining the technical skills and staff hours required for successful completion of the project.

  7. May be required to perform in a lead capacity, with excellent written and oral communications skills, and a familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required. Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and be able to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on project.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

4-year degree in Engineering (or related field) and 8-10 years of related work experience. Professional Engineer registration may be required.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES :

Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is required.
