Job Title: HR and Safety Assistant Reports to: Safety and Recruiting Manager Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Job Code: JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for promoting and monitoring safety and compliance objectives for all company and contractor drivers while providing operational support to the safety and recruiting department. This includes training and re-training programs for drivers as needed. Other duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES Audit driver logs for compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations * Audit 100% driver's logs, including falsifications, by 15th of month * Generate monthly reports to management and drivers; monitor acknowledgements * Counsel/re-train drivers as needed; document counseling in driver's personnel file * Archive six months logs and purge monthly * Audit hours of service on high-risk drivers and report results Administrative assistant responsibilities * Act as human resource liaison with corporate RG office * Perform administrative functions for department(s) including typing and filing * Receive, sort, and distribute company mail to proper persons/departments * Prepare daily bank deposit * Distribute company memos to proper recipients inside and outside company * Coordinate special clerical projects for department(s) * Assist recruiting on special project or vacation coverage basis Plates and permits program for fleet * Secure license plates for owned company equipment and contractor vehicles * Supply updated permit books for all tractors, including temporary permits as needed * Coordinate cab cards, single state registrations, etc. for fleet Assist in maintenance of Driver Qualification Packets * Monitor expired physicals and CDL; notify drivers; schedule appointments * Update the DQ coversheets to reflect updated expirations datesNew Driver Orientation And Training * Train all new drivers on driver log program * Train all new drivers on Hours of Service compliance * Assign and explain fuel card program MEETING PLANNING AND DRIVER RECOGNITION PROGRAMS * Participate in planning and execution of quarterly safety meetings * Coordinate company activity meetings as needed * Coordinate and order driver awards and recognition products Other Assignments as necessary * Miscellaneous clerical functions, typing, special projects EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE * Associates degree in Human Resources or related discipline preferred * High School diploma required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Experience and Technical Skills * 1 year transportation experience * DOT Regulations and Hour of Service Understanding * Computer experience- Excel/Word * Excellent Communication Skills/interpersonal skills Mental Requirements * Sense of urgency * Problem Solver * Detail oriented * Self Starter * Excellent follow-up skills Non-Experience Factors * Ability to work well under pressure * Able to work occasional overtime including occasional Saturday for meetings * Flexible and cooperative * Operate comfortably and effectively at all levels within company SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct: None Indirect: None PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS * To perform this job successfully, the physical demands listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee * Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions * While performing the duties of this job: * The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time whether that be sitting or standing *
