Rail Control Solutions (RCS) is Bombardier Transportation’s signaling division. RCS is focused on optimizing the flow of trains and delivering innovative signaling systems which enable the safe and efficient operation of rail networks and trains.

Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Vehicle System Engineer will define system requirements, initiate the design process, and perform design analysis related to the vehicle’s PTC (positive train control) subsystem. You will diagnose and correct design deficiencies, assist with maintaining cost control, and provide technical direction related to your subsystem through commissioning and revenue service. You will work on domestic and international train control projects.

In your role, you will:

  • Define subsystem requirements based on contract, design, and constraints;

  • Provide input to conceptual design of the vehicle PTC subsystem;

  • Provide support for acceptance and refinement of the design concept with the end users of the system;

  • Provide support for acceptance from subsystem component leads/engineers and system design lead.

  • Trace requirements to vehicle subsystem design as well as system and contract requirements;

  • Maintain requirements through the project lifecycle;

  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams like safety, RAMS, human factors, test, verification and validation, etc. to ensure vehicle system requirements are met and aligned with contract;

  • Support the overall system needs as required.


As our ideal candidate:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; a Master’s Degree will be considered an asset;

  • You possess five (5) to seven (7) years of systems engineering experience;

  • You possess knowledge of DOORS or similar Requirements Management tools;

  • Knowledge of the transportation industry, specifically rail signaling and/or PTC (positive train control) will be an asset;

  • You demonstrate critical attention to detail and deadlines, and are self-motivated;

  • You possess the ability to adapt well to change in direction and priorities in a project and deadline-oriented environment.

  • You can operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional teams;

  • You demonstrate strong written and verbal English communication skills.
