We are currently looking for a Transit and Rail Vehicle Engineer to join our West/Central region Transit and Rail, Technical Excellence Center. Based in Salt Lake City, Utah you will be part of a dynamic and growing team dedicated to meeting client expectations through the provision of highly experienced local resources.

In this role you will be responsible for providing project management and technical expertise for rail vehicle systems and systems integration. Our teams provide high quality multi-modal engineering support to high-profile, national and international projects. Transit modes shall include but may not be limited to streetcar, light rail and commuter rail. You will actively participate in all areas of project life cycles, from the design phase through the final close-out. Potential projects will include vehicle overhaul programs and potential new vehicle procurements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Client Satisfaction

  • Directly and daily interface with the client

  • Attend client meetings

  • Develop project proposals and budgets

  • Perform billable work and other tasks as best fits training and ability

  • Assume responsibility for the preparation of technical reports in accordance with WSP’s ISO requirements

  • Preparation of technical reports/specifications

  • Undertake design reviews

  • Investigation of vehicle/rail system and integration issues

  • Support maintenance and vendor warranty issues

  • Business Development

  • Assume roles in assisting in new pursuits

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four year degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related discipline

  • A minimum of five years of experience as a rail vehicle engineer or equivalent position

  • System assurance and safety management systems experience

  • Knowledge of and experience with the systems associated with rail vehicles such as propulsion, braking, HVAC, communications, and auxiliary power systems

  • Experience in technical specification preparation and cost estimation and evaluation

  • Must be able to effectively communicate information and ideas both orally and in writing in the English language

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and other industry specific software

  • Experience in client facing roles and meeting client expectations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations including the applicable Code of Federal Regulations and APTA

  • Advanced degree(s)

  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) license with eligibility for reciprocity in other states

  • Preferred experience to include:
