Title: Mechanical Engineer (Static Equipment)

Location: NL-ZH-The Hague

Job Overview:

basic mechanical design and analysis of assigned deliverables in a CB&I project including specific complex deliverables such as pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment and piping engineering. Work includes, among other things, conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, layouts, design calculations, specification development and supervising vendor packages for equipment and mechanical systems. Maintains and promotes a focus on CB&I’s end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction. Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines. Ensures effective management of change. Assumes responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity and budget control.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Applies all HSE requirements in the executing of the work.

Applies all relevant procedures, practices and standards.

Specifies equipment in accordance with process and project requirements.

Must supply other disciplines with relevant information.

Writes and handles equipment requisitions in accordance with project


Makes technical evaluations of incoming quotations from bidders and

checks same for completeness of scope and compliance with specifications. Assist the buyer with the commercial evaluation.

Reviews drawings, documents, and inspection & test procedures from the sellers.

Must make sure of a good coordination with all other concerned disciplines.

Carries out all relevant administrative tasks.

Makes calculations on computer/by hand.

Assist in inspection during testing and evaluate test results of equipment, both if necessary.

Give support to construction when necessary.

Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:

The reassignment to other projects.

The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays.

The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also other projects) when possible / desirable.

The managing / learning of current / future working methods and software applications

Accepts all tasks of lower level and in consultation with his superior certain tasks of a higher level.

Additional for the Mechanical Engineer Level III function:

Achieve the total quality and HSE objectives set for the project.

Play an active role in the integrated EPC work process as a member of the project team, for engineering, selection, production, fabrication, expediting, inspection, testing, delivery, shipment, installation and pre)commissioning of materials.

Witness / evaluate performance / functional tests of complex equipment.

Share and explain all relevant information to support the EPC work process, ensure that this information is current and the basis is understood.

Replaces the lead engineer when necessary. Takes the delegated lead over a number of requisitions within a discipline project team when necessary (Sub-lead).

Challenge project requirements where there is room for improvement (value cost engineering).

Audit work of other discipline teams (Peer Reviews & Project Integrity Checks).

Make work improvement recommendations.

As part of proposal team, prepare part of proposal, negotiate scope of work.


Basic Qualifications

BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering.

5 to 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in either oil and gas or (petro)chemical industry.

Main focus on (office) engineering of static equipment preferably storage tanks.

Must have EU-Citizenship.
