The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate (MSD) is seeking several Mid-Level Mechanical Engineers at our Tucson, AZ, plant site to support multiple programs across the product life cycle including concept development, critical design, integration, qualification, and production support as a Responsible Engineering Authority. These positions perform in alignment to expectations of a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) across development and production phases. Qualified candidate will possess a strong mechanical aptitude of the fundamentals, mind-set of incorporating early cycles of learning, attention to detail relative to margin analysis, application of geometric dimensioning, tolerance loops, material selection, structural and thermal considerations, etc. and take ownership in the delivery of a TDP that meets requirements, is producible, and in accordance to RMS standards. These positions require strong communication skills in interfacing across Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality with additional knowledge of basic engineering test principals, supplier first article inspections, work instruction, and failure investigation principals. As an REA, decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports as well as presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards. The REA may function at times in a role without appreciable direction or supervision while exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of the assignment requiring self-initiative, engagement of subject matter experts. Note: This position can be Salary Grade G08 (Senior Mechanical Engineer I) or Salary Grade G09 (Senior Mechanical Engineer II) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, leadership, experience and responsibility requirements of the position. Required Skills: Minimum of four (4) years professional experience in engineering relative to mechanical design and / or production support Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools Applied experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Must currently have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance U.S. Citizenship is required Desired Skills: Six (6) years professional experience in industry preferred Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbally and written with an ability to work in or lead teams and holding one-self accountability to delivering technical solutions to schedule commitments and within budget Experience on technical investigative teams relative to establishing root cause and recommendations for corrective action including implementation plans Expertise in mechanical sub-systems design and packaging, materials, tolerance application, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, large assembly development, and / or design for producibility Working knowledge of RMS processes and procedures across a product’s life cycle including Engineering Change Boards, Process Control Boards, Gate Reviews, Design Reviews, and Earned Value Management System Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
