Job Description:

Responsible for coordination of communications and procedures fo the nursing unit, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests and other necessities. NST's also work under the direction of a nurse to assist in delivery of patient care including personal hygiene and daily activities, transporting patients and equipement, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, reordering and stocking supplies

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 35 lbs, push/pull up to 45 lbs, carrying up to 35 lbs, balance, stooping/crouching, grasping, finger dexterity, reaching above/below shoulders, reaching across, bending at waist >45 degrees.

Physical Environment: Noise, Infectious Disease, Moving Machinery, Vibration, Human Tissue/fluids, Chemicals, Biohazard Material.

Mental Demands: Frequent people contact, irregular work schedule, detailed work, frequent interruptions, decision making skills, concentration, ability to work independently, multitasking, organizational skills, working with others and frequent deadlines.

Job Qualifications:

Active status on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry is required. Student nurses who have completed two semesters of clinicals and will be completing and passing the NA registry exam with in 6 months of hire will also be qualified. BLS required.

Previous Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), Nursing Assistant (NA) or Nursing Station Technician (NST) experience or completed technical, college or internal Fairview HUC program, or equivalent and related experience. Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required. Communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and basic computer skills.
