Purdue University Environmental Technician VI/VII (Asbestos/Abatement) - West Lafayette - Radiological and Environmental Management in West Lafayette, Indiana

Under leadership of crew chief or skilled crew member, train to perform removal, enclosure, encapsulation, and/or other methods of eliminating and controlling hazardous material or hazardous environmental conditions including asbestos and lead. Must follow IOSHA, EPA, and IDEM regulations. Respond on 24-hour basis to chemical spills, accidents, and emergencies. May involve exposure to heights, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, close spaces and lifting requirements up to 80 pounds.For more information about the department, please visit our web page at Radiological and Environmental ManagementRequired: High school diploma/GED.Must successfully pass an accredited asbestos worker exam every year to conform with Indiana Occupational Safety and health Administration (IOSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) regulations.Must have good work organization skills and the ability to create and maintain accurate records.Good written and verbal communication skills.Basic mathematical calculation skills.Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds up to 80 feet and work in tight spaces.Ability to lift and carry 50 to 80 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.Ability to wear a tight fitting respirator.Must pass an annual physical examination.A valid US or Canadian driver's license.Preferred: Two years of experience in general construction or carpentry.Knowledge of the terminology, functions and operating procedures of negative air pressure units, high pressure units, high pressure sprayers and various hand and power tools and equipment.Previous experience performing environmental abatement including asbestos and lead removal and disposal according to EPA standards.Previous experience insulating and repairing standard pipes and boilers.Basic computer skills.Additional Information:Purdue will not sponsor an employment related visa for this position.Occasional overtime may be required.A Background Check will be required for employment in this position.ALL applicants must apply via Purdue's online recruitment system.
