Global Technical Infrastructure Services is a central team that engineers, develops and supports IT infrastructure of the bank. Hosting services, Collaboration services and service management are building blocks of Infrastructure Services. BFS Global Network services provide Data Connectivity, Voice, Firewall and Core services and products to Barclay’s internal and external customers. The services offered by Connectivity are defined as a ‘multi cluster service’ and is aligned to Tier 1 criticality.
*Overall purpose of role
The vacancy is for a Senior Technical Infrastructure specialist providing live systems support and project delivery to a number of Barclays Core Network environments. The role provides exposure to underlying platforms used to deliver, LAN/MAN/WAN, Secure Web access, DNS/DHCP/NTP and Load Balancing for the Banks application infrastructure and internal staff. • To complete all Infrastructure elements of Operations and Projects which require LAN/MAN/WAN, Internet Web Access component, DNS/DHCP/NTP or Load Balancing. • Ensuring full service availability following the resolution of incidents or major outages as well as the implementation of changes through effective service stability management. • React quickly and as necessary to live systems errors and service problems to minimise downtime and restore service. Key focus will be required upon identification of root cause and implementation of permanent fix. • Technical delivery and implementations driven by risk activities (RCA). • Planning and implementation of small, medium and large complex changes, small to medium project deliveries in line with change management processes and governance. • Managing changes to ensure quality delivery within defined service levels and maintain the stability of production environment. • Take responsibility for completing tasks, focusing on requirements and planning to meet client needs, • To act as a point of contact within the team for escalations, owning and managing escalations to meet customer expectations.
• Provides support and manages the Network LAN/WAN/MAN infrastructure layer, firewalls, LTM/GTM, NAC, Web proxy, DNS appliances for the Barclays managed estate. • Own the responsibility for supporting the global data network infrastructure component • Responsible for ensuring that the integrity and stability of the production data network is maintained. • Ensure compliance and adherence to the Change, Incident and Problem Management processes and supporting procedures. • Maximise the use of toolsets and automation to manage and improve the stability and compliance of network infrastructure. • Act as point of contact internally and externally for technical queries for their area of expertise. • Resolution of events, Incidents, Problems and complex changes within the Barclays network estate including: o Repair, Recovery Monitoring and confirmation of Service Restorations o Management of the Networks Problem Management queue o Problem Management Root Cause Analysis and identification of options for permanent fixes o Problem identification through Incident management or pro-active service analysis • Fix or manage technical escalation to supplier contacts any network incidents or problems to resolution that are impacting the Barclays network estate on a 24x7 365 basis ( as part of a MIC on call rota) • Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
• 7 years of on Cisco routers/switches or equivalent experience and knowledge on Cisco routers/switches. • 7 years of experience supporting live enterprise network environments • 7 years of experience of WAN routing technologies • 5 years of experience with data centre design and deployment • 5 years of experience with Firewall technologies • 5 years of experience with Load Balancer technologies • 5 years of experience with Proxy, DNS and DHCP technologies
• Cisco CCIE Certified or equivalent knowledge and experience. • Operation experience within a banking or other financial sector domain • Experience managing relationships with senior business partners
